How To Create The Perfect Entertaining Space
Creating a space that is inviting doesn’t only apply to those that want to entertain. Your space should feel inviting to you as well – the entertainment factor is just an added bonus.
Here are some ways to turn your space into the perfect space for entertaining year round:
It All Begins in the Entryway
Create an entryway that is inviting and functional. This is your guests’ first impression of your home, so take the extra time to create a beautiful impression. This is also a place where your guests can take off their coats and shoes, so make sure there is a place to put those.
Traffic Flow is Very Important
Take a moment and pretend you are your guest. Walk around your home the way a guest would. Where do you have to course correct or take the long route to get to a space? Move furniture around to create the best route from the front door to the entertaining spaces.
Create a Space Fit for Many Ages
Gatherings can bring people of many different ages and interests together. It is important to have a variety of things to do in your space to create a fun environment, but it also keeps you from having to constantly check in on your guests as the host.
A pool table is a great start, but only a few people can play at a time. Consider pinball, stand-up video games, and air hockey, not to mention a big screen, stereo and surround sound, so everyone can be engaged at once.
The most important thing? Wide open spaces that aren’t constricted by support columns and a lot of electrical outlets, unless you want your space full of extension cords.
Create Multiple Seating Areas
Having company over is a great chance to sit down, talk, and connect with them. With that in mind, it’s important to give yourself and your guests plenty of places to sit.
As you design and lay out your entertaining space(s), think about how you can create as much seating as possible. Adding a sectional can be a great way to create a conversation space while subdividing a room, for example.
Creating conversation areas is another idea. Breaking up your entertainment space into several small seating areas by arranging chairs around a fireplace, or near a picture window.
Don’t forget about the kitchen! Many houseguests are naturally going to gravitate to this space, so make sure that it’s clean and functional. If you have a kitchen island, you could add stools to turn this central spot into a sitting area.
Create a Wonderful Guest Bathroom Experience
When you have guests, odds are they will need to use the bathroom while they are in your home. This is why you shouldn’t forget about the guest bathroom. Use nice finishes and clean design choices to create a mini retreat for your guests. It will give an inviting feel and also land you a compliment because you thought of usually forgotten space.
