Creating a Cohesive Design Between Indoor and Outdoor Spaces
Indoor outdoor living is one of the hottest trends in the home design right now. The idea of adding square footage to our living space without having to do an addition is an exciting thought!
As we look at out front yard or the empty space behind the house that could potentially work perfectly for our Indoor Outdoor living fusion decor, the creative ideas start flowing. There are many factors and features that could help us in blending the two areas.
Simply removing the wall and placing large sliding glass doors alone won’t cut it; the use of colors to create a seamless flow from the indoor to the outdoor plays a key role as well. Here are some of our favorite tips to to unify your indoor spaces with the outdoors:
1. Try to create a seamless flow from the indoors to the outdoors by using the same color schemes.
2. Coordinate the colors of pillows and other accent pieces in the patio chairs outside with that of the couch color and accessories from your indoor spaces.
3. Plants play a major role in bringing an explosion of color into an otherwise bland spaces and give a natural outdoorsy vibe to the living area.
4. For a summer glow, use soft, light colors of throw pillows and match it with a little darker tone on the indoors.
5. Window shades or window coverings come in a vast range of colors and designs. Coordinating the colors with the window treatments inside will also help connect the indoor and the outdoors. For example, using the same color window shades as the lounge chairs and patio chairs outside will create a unified look between the two areas.
6. Even colorful chairs can help in blending the indoors with the outdoors by using different accents such as vases, pillows and decorative pieces of the same hue from that of the chairs.
7. Use placemats to match the colors from the indoor to create a connection between the two areas.
8. Choose colors that are not exactly alike. Similar tones (not the same) give a more elegant look. For example, if the walls indoors are a darker shade, then the outdoor wall should be done in a lighter tone of that color.
9. If the outdoor area of your house is lush green with plants and shrubs, paint the walls of your indoors with same green color.
Your outdoor space is extra living space that you should take advantage of and just because it is outside doesn’t mean it can’t match the inside. Use these tips and turn the indoor outdoor living space of your house into a picturesque setting.
