One Design Tip You Need To Know

A new season is just barely upon us, but now is the time to think about your plans for the next two seasons.

I know, I know, this might seem premature, but hear me out.

One thing we notice about those interested in working with NKDG or designers in general is the disconnect about timelines, which can lead to either a rushed or incomplete design. And nobody wants that!!

Many factors go into the timeline we provide our clients, but these are the Top 3:

1. Furniture Selection

An issue that has been trending with many industries lately is the long lead-times associated with delivery. This is especially true with furniture.

In stock furniture requires less of a lead time, however this doesn’t necessarily mean you can get it next week. On average in stock furniture requires a 3-4 week lead time.

Designers have access to amazing furniture options that others don’t. While these pieces are beautiful and more customized, the timeline extends longer than you may think. Out of stock & custom furniture requires an average of 4-6 month lead time.

2. Scope of Work

The size of your project directly effects the timeline of your finalized design, and a lot of the timeline is out of our hands. Whether your project is our virtual eDesign option or a full blown renovation, there are several people working in the background to successfully complete your project beautifully.

When vendors, contractors, builders, and suppliers get involved, we are working on their schedule many times. Unfortunately, another consequence of the pandemic is a lack of available workforce, leading less availability. This means we need to get on their calendar ASAP, on average 2-4 months in advance.

3. Our Current Client Load

We are fortunate enough to have raving fans across the country and our processes have made it possible to work with clients in a variety of cities. Unfortunately, this means our calendar fills up rather quickly to accommodate the work and travel that goes along with that. The average timeline between your Discovery Call and the approval of design concepts is about 2 months.

Before your furniture, design accents, and contractors/vendors are ordered and notified, here is everything that has to happen:

  1. Your Discovery Call introduces us to your project and allows us to share our service options and process with you
  2. Consultation prep includes our team gathering your design needs, photos, and results of your design assessment to prepare our design team for your meeting – Minimum 10 days after your discovery call
  3. Your Initial Consultation introduces you to your design team while going over design direction, timelines, cost, and any questions you may have
  4. Our design team sets out to create beautiful and personalized design concepts to present to you – Minimum 15 days after your consultation
  5. Your design presentation allows us to share the concepts we have created and allows you to share feedback and make edits
  6. Final Design Revisions & Approval – Minimum 5 days after your presentation
  7. The ordering & vendor scheduling processes begin
