5 Ways to Create a Romantic Bedroom that Lasts Year Round

Valentine’s Day might be an excuse to show the ones you love how much you care, but that shouldn’t be the only day we care about romance. This year express your devotion by designing a bedroom that’ll inspire romance all year long!

Our team of expert designers at Nikki Klugh Design Group has pulled together some ideas to use your existing space and décor, coupled with a few simple design tricks to create a year-round romantic space!

1. Bring Sexy Back

Remove anything from the space that doesn’t belong or looks out of place. Once you determine a theme for your bedroom, anything outside of that theme should be considered clutter and cleared out.

Add beautiful storage to hide things that are necessary but not on theme, such as books, treasures, etc. Once you have cleared the clutter, start incorporating all the unique accent details until the room is clutter-free, tidy, and ordered.

2. Turn Out The Lights

Studies show that intense light heightens our stress level, so this is your sign to keep the lights low. Add a dimmer switch to create the ambiance and make your bedroom look romantic without making any other major changes. Maybe add a soundbar under the TV and have a steady stream of Teddy P playing on cue!

You can also use candles to avoid converting to dimmable lighting. Though candles are more temporary, they can still set the tone. Illuminate the room, build focal points, and turn this space built for just you two into a romantic nook.

3. Beds Are Made To Be Laid

It may be time to spice up your old bed or just the bedding. Talk about an exciting gift and an investment you both will enjoy for years to come. Romantic bed frame upgrades could include: a four-poster bed, canopy bed, and even a circular bed.

Want to keep the same bed frame? You can redesign the bed you already have with a fresh coat of paint, add material to the headboard or add ceiling canopy curtains.

When it comes to bedding, The choices are endless!

Materials like satin and silk sheets maybe slide around and end up on the floor more than you want.

Color is important too. If you like elegance and glamour, try red. If you want the room to look passionate, try purple or gold to symbolize royalty.

Don’t be afraid to play with different textures in your bedroom. Consider faux fur on the floor, silk on the ceiling, a velvet bench or textured throw pillows.

4. Smell Good, Feel Good

Romance and desire are strongly linked to your sense of smell. You can bring a sexy scent into your bedroom through scented tea lights, pillow mist, a fragrance plug-in or just a spritz of your usual perfume on the pillows and around your bed. It is important that you don’t go overboard with too many smells – that will have the opposite effect.

Aphrodisiac scents are those that heighten desire, pleasure, or performance to stimulate sexual feelings. Pumpkin, lavender, vanilla, cinnamon, peppermint, and ginger are among the best aphrodisiac smells you can use in your boudoir.

5. Step It Up

The type of flooring you have in your room can evoke a different feeling. Romance links itself to more soft and lush fabrics. Due to this bedrooms with hardwood or tile flooring might feel cold and stale.

To keep you from having to install carpet in your bedroom, we suggest adding a beautiful, lush rug under your bed. This rug should come out further than your bed to provide you with a soft place to put your foot first thing in the morning.
