How to Create a Workspace that Feels Like Money

With more and more of us working from home, it is important to design your space in a way that works well for your productivity while fitting into your current home design.

Here are 5 ways to usher productivity, creativity, & focus into your home office!!

1. Identify Your Big WHY

The best way to focus on your goal(s) is to determine why you want to achieve it in the first place. Really think about your goals. Go all the way back to the root of each goal and the deeper meaning that lies underneath.

Once you have determined your WHY, select photos or objects that represent it. This can be photos of family members, a momento from when you first gained interest in your goal, a print out of an art piece you want to purchase when you achieve your goal, etc.

Now that you have a tangible representation of your goal, hang it on the wall or put in on your desk. Seeing your WHY every time you set foot in your home office will reignite that fire to make it happen.

2. Design to your Senses

You may not realize this, but each of us are motivated by one or two senses. Our senses can actually influence how we feel in a space. For example, someone motivated by their sense of  touch needs a variety of fabrics and textures in their space. We can master our environment and set the tone and mood for our space and THUS for ourselves!!

Vision – colors, wallpaper, artwork, scenery

Auditory – music, nature, water feature

Tactile – fabrics, artwork, feature wall

Olfactory – Essential oils, candles, perfume

3. Discover Your Power Position

Research has shown that sitting with your back to a door releases the stress hormone cortisol, whereas sitting with a view of a door releases the feel-good yummy hormone oxytocin.

In fact, it’s rare to meet achievers of any kind who sit looking at a wall.

As best selling author Karen Kingston says, “Facing an insurmountable obstacle (like an unmovable wall) generally has the effect of squashing a person’s spirit rather than inspiring them to do great things.”

For example, if you visit the offices of successful people, you’ll often find that they have intuitively placed their desk in the command position of the room—diagonal to the door and in full view of the room.

This position symbolically says, “I’m open to the world and the world is open to me.”

Emotionally, mentally and physically sitting in the command position helps keep self-esteem high, commands respect from others around you and promotes yourself as the leader you are.

4. The Power of Color

Scientific studies have shown that colors don’t just change our moods, they also profoundly impact our productivity, for better and for worse. That’s why it’s best to decorate your workplace with a vibrant medley of stimulating hues that increase output and spark creativity.

Corporations spend BILLIONS creating brands that are irresistible. MUCH of that comes in the form of their visual brands that are intended to match the values of the companies.

Low-wavelength colors, like restful green and calming blue — two of the most common colors in Mother Nature’s palette — improve efficiency and focus. They also lend an overall sense of well-being. Bottom line: If you want happier, more effective workers, green and blue are wise choices.

High-wavelength colors, like alarming red or energetic yellow are great ways to draw attention to specific items or goals and trigger innovation.

5. Identify Your Need

Which of these do you need more of in your Money Space: Focus, Creativity, Comfort, Clarity or Energy?

Once you decide what your need is, start looking around for design inspiration based on the other tips. This can be colors that give you the feeling of your need,  your dream desk chair, or decor that makes you feel excited to be in your space.

Gathering all of this inspiration will help decide your design style and how to finish off your Money Space.
